Prostate Probelems
TURP is the acronym for Trans-urethral resection procedure. It is sometimes called the roto rooter. I was admitted to the hospital for one of those, while the other three were day surgery. It involves a general anaesthetic and a cystoscope using a tool roughly shaped like a spoon. The recovery was unremarkable except for the increased urine flow.
I always look at the cautions written on over the counter cold medications.
I have yet to find one that does not caution against the use by those with BPH or enlarged prostate.
Symptoms of an enlarged prostate include: Slow Starting urine stream.
Frequent urge to urinate.
Frequent awakening during the night.
Blood in the urine
Men should have a PSA (Prostate Serum Analysis) test annually after the age of 40
. They should also have the digital examination by a urologist on an annual basis. Any rise in the level of the PSA should be checked by a urologist. Any number 5 and up is considered suspect. My personal number since I have been getting the test is .4. The test involves a simple blood draw and analysis. |
