Pets, Crates, and Cages

Just as we humans have a need for our space, so do our pets such as dogs and cats. We have a crate or cage for each of our pets. They react to the crates in different manners. The only way Bobby approaches his cage is if we have placed a treat in there for him. On the other hand, at 9:00PM, we let them out for one final run around the yard. Upon the return to the inside, Charlie runs and gets in his crate and awaits his treat. Charlie will also go into his crate inthe afternoon for a nap. Bobby has a completely different approach. He comes in and promptly gets under a chair until my wife passes by. He then runs with his very active nose in the air sniffing for a hint of a treat. I will hide it from him and he sniffs around until he finds it. He then heads to the bedroom where my wife will have hidden a treat for him also.

One practice that should always be followed is in the car. The pet should be kept in a crate while the vgehicle is in motion. This should be done for their protection as much as for the passengers. In a crash, they could become flying missles with disastrous results. They may not like it and whine about it but ours usually settle down in a few minutes.

When we trave, we usually board them but we have taken Bobby on trips before we got Charlie. Some motels have very strict and expensive policies regarding animals. Some allow no animals, no exceptions, others charge a non-refundable deposit for a pet. You can usually determine the chain's poliocy by going to the parent website and checking for the policy. We have found Days Inn to be pet friendly.
